More pieces for the English Dept.

Aw! Many more lovely pieces for the English Dept. shop in Portland, OR. It took a little longer than I estimated, but I have some lovely new designs! Elizabeth Messina is giving away a head piece AND birdcage veil. The headpiece is quite the charmer. It is completely handmade with silk habotai. Each petal and leaf is hand painted and the flowers are finished off with vintage stamens. It is attached to a wire comb and has feather accents. It would be perfect for a wedding OR everyday wear. I just saw the loveliest wedding at Once Wed and recognized the Twigs & Honey hair piece. Brianna, the too pretty bride, is wearing Blushing Mist, a hand dyed and handmade silk flower. Such a lovely wedding, yes? Photos by our labor of love.

Matt and I will be leaving for Napa Valley on September 23rd next week and we'll be back on Saturday and then leaving for Istanbul on September 28th until October 5th. I'll be feverishly fulfilling orders and boutique orders until we leave. I'll ship all made to order pieces purchased through this Friday (September 18th) by September 23rd. Anything purchased after September 18th, I'll ship when I get back first week in October. Email with questions!

And just for some random "fun", here's what the family did last weekend. I just got some photos back that my sister sent me today. Be warned, we're a wacky bunch. My dad was an army ranger and trainer back during Vietnam and since he had two girls, we learned how to do "guy stuff". And boys will be boys:

Oh! Did I tell you that Matt got me a cotton shirt with "Mrs. Callan" type for our 2 year anniversary? The traditional gift is cotton.

I'm aiming the 223 here. Matt always makes fun of me because I like watching movies where girls kick butt. Have I mentioned, we also started taking Krav Maga this summer? Who would have guessed, yes?

We were shooting 22 and 223 rifles at 50 yards. I fired a shotgun for the first time and got the clay pigeon on the first pull. After the recoil knocked off my ear muffs, I decided to stick with the rifles.

Work can sometimes be really stressful. My dad has been target shooting for a long time and he always says it's a good way to release built up stress. You should try it sometime! It is quite the opposite of my day job. ;)

Just had to take a picture... plus a new piece

Don't you just love this silk organza shrug Elizabeth Dye made for me?? I had been meaning to take photos for a long time now! It is the exact one featured in Oregon Bride Magazine this season. I love, love, love it. I need to get a more lovely and long dress to wear with it. AND, I need Matt to take me out on the town so I have a good occasion to wear it to.

Hot!

I've been working a bit more slowly since it's been so hot in Oregon (107 degrees!). I know Chelsea has similar sentiments. Wah-wah-wah.. right? It's okay if you have AC... but it is really hard to work in a boiling hot house if you don't have AC. I would stand there in my studio, not moving, and the sweat was dripping down my face. Well, like many Oregonians, Matt and I waited until too late to go AC shopping. Sold out just about at every store from Portland-Salem (I called everywhere). Anyhow, we just got a used one that is big enough for my studio room in the house and it is heaven. To celebrate the simple things in life, I created a simple, yet gorgeous handmade silk rose. It's in my Etsy shop HERE.
