Mel C says solo career was terrifying

Mel C has revealed that launching her solo career both 'terrified' and 'inspired' her.

The former Spice Girl, whose full name is Melanie Chisholm, was frequently praised for being the most musically talented member of the former girl band. She has had success on her own with hit singles such as I Turn to You and her first album Northern Star sold almost four million copies worldwide.

't was as if I was waiting to fly,' she told Q magazine. ''d never felt as inspired or as terrified. I'd never worked on my own, since the Spice Girls were always in a room with the writers. It was a case of rediscovering who I was.'

Now Mel, who was formerly known as Sporty Spice, is hard at work on her fifth solo album. She hopes it will be finished by the end of the year and has dismissed rumours that the record only feature dance tunes.

'nternet whispers say it's really dancey but it's not,' she said. 't's, 'Let's do whatever the f**k we want.''

She seems to be pleased with the work she has done on the record so far and recently tweeted enthusiastically: 'New album is sounding sweeeeeeeet!'

Life is very different for Mel since the Spice Girls disbanded. The singer has a young daughter named Scarlett and has revealed that motherhood changed everything for her. ''m much braver now,' she said. 'Can I say 'more mature' too?'
